Dr. Joseph Ortiz - Veterinarian

Dr. Ortiz earned his DVM from the University of Arizona in 2026 after completing his B.S. in Wildlife Biology at Texas State University. His passion for animals has taken him through experiences in wildlife biology, conservation, zookeeping, and veterinary medicine—including an internship at the San Antonio Zoo.

His veterinary interests include exotic animal medicine, avian and reptile medicine, zoo medicine and rehabilitation, small animal neurology, and surgery. During his externship at PAH, he was drawn to the hospital’s advanced medicine, strong mentorship, and opportunities to work with exotic and wildlife species.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Ortiz is fluent in English and Spanish and also has some proficiency in French and Italian. He fell in love with Prescott during his externship and is excited to call it home.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Ortiz enjoys hiking, running, soccer, photography, and exploring the outdoors with his Cattle Dog mix, Aurora. He also shares his home with Percy, his singing cockatiel.
